Top Five National Forests in the USA

The United States is one of the most beautiful and diverse nations in the world. With so many wonderful places to visit it is easy to rank the top five national forests in the US. The five locations listed below are some of the most beautiful places in the world and we are lucky that there are government programs designed to protect them. My top five national parks would include the following in no particular order: Tongass National Forest, Gifford Pinchot National Forest, Uncompahgre National Forest, Kaibab National Forest, and Nantahala National Forest

These five national forests all have something different to offer their visitors. The Tongass National Forest is the largest in the country at 17 million acres. Located in Alaska, any visitor to Tongass will see why Alaska is the last great frontier in this country. The Gifford Pinchot National Forest, located in Washington, is one of the oldest national forest in the country. Visitors to Gifford Pinchot often enjoy visiting Mount St Helens, one of the most famous volcanoes in the states.

Visitors to Uncompahgre National Forest in Colorado can experience the mountain scenery by driving on the Million Dollar Highway, while visitors to Kaibab National Forest in Arizona can experience the Grand Canyon by staying overnight at the Spring Valley Cabin or at the Hull Cabin. When visiting the Nantahala National Forest you will get to experience the wilderness of North Carolina. “Nantahala” is Cherokee for land of “the noonday sun”. In some places the wilderness is so vast that sunlight only reaches the ground when the sun is directly overhead, hence the forest’s name.
